What Is EcoSize-CXW-111?
EcoSize-CXW-111 is a chemically modified maize starch used as a warp sizing agent for cotton yarn from Ne 6 to Ne 40. It is manufactured in Germany and supplied in Pakistan by Seamens Enterprises as part of the ECO-Series textile auxiliary range.
A sizing agent is a film-forming chemical applied to warp yarn before weaving so the yarn can survive thousands of cycles of abrasion against heald wires, reed dents and the shuttle or rapier path. The film binds protruding fibres to the yarn body, raises tensile strength, and reduces hairiness. Everything else in the sizing recipe โ softeners, wax, antistatics โ exists to modify how that film behaves.
Why Use Modified Starch Instead of Native Starch?
Modified starch gelatinises at a lower temperature, holds a far more stable viscosity in the size box, and forms a flexible film rather than the brittle one native starch leaves behind. That flexibility is the whole point: a brittle size film cracks under loom tension and sheds as dust, which is where a large share of warp breakage and shed-cleaning labour originates.
Native maize starch has to be cooked hard to break the granule open, and once cooked it retrogrades โ the viscosity climbs during the shift, so the beam sized at hour one and the beam sized at hour six do not carry the same amount of size. In a mill running three shifts, that variance shows up as inconsistent loom performance nobody can trace back to the size kitchen.

How Much Sizing Agent Per Kg of Yarn?

The standard check is straightforward: take a known length of yarn before and after sizing, dry both to constant weight, and calculate the difference as a percentage of the unsized weight. Doing this once per shift on each sizing machine catches drift long before the weaving floor reports it as increased breakage.

Does It Work on Synthetic Blends?
EcoSize-CXW-111 performs on cotton and on cotton-rich blends up to roughly 35% polyester, but starch does not adhere reliably to polyester filament surfaces on its own. Starch is hydrophilic and bonds well to cellulose; polyester is hydrophobic, so the film sits on the filament rather than anchoring to it, and it strips off under loom abrasion.
For polyester-rich blends and fine synthetic counts, the ECO-Series answer is EcoPVA-GS. Many mills do not switch entirely โ a blended starch/PVA recipe carries the cost advantage of starch on the cotton fraction while PVA handles adhesion on the synthetic fraction.
Shelf Life and Storage in Pakistani Godown Conditions
Sealed bags of EcoSize-CXW-111 carry a 12-month shelf life when stored between 5ยฐC and 35ยฐC, off the floor, and away from direct sunlight. In practice, humidity is the constraint that matters in Lahore and Faisalabad, not temperature.
Modified starch is hygroscopic. A bag left open or stacked directly on a concrete floor during monsoon absorbs enough moisture to cake, and caked material cooks to a different viscosity than the recipe assumes โ which then shows up as unexplained pickup variation on the sizing machine weeks later.
