About Seamens Enterprises: Seamens Enterprises is one of Pakistan's earliest adopters of German chemical technology โ using imported German raw materials to formulate its own range of organic-based industrial chemical solutions since 1997.
EcoFix-FB is Seamens' fixing agent for reactive and direct dyeing on cellulosic fibres, used after dyeing to improve how well the colour holds up to laundering. This guide covers what it does, how it's tested, and where it fits โ including an honest note on certified/eco-label production, where a mill's specific input requirements should always be checked directly.
What Is EcoFix-FB Used For?
EcoFix-FB is applied after reactive or direct dyeing to fix the dye onto cellulosic fibres, improving resistance to colour change and staining during washing. It's used in standard reactive and direct dyeing recipes for cotton and other cellulosic fibres across Pakistani textile mills.
A Note for GOTS & Eco-Label Production
Check your certification's input list first. GOTS and several other eco-label programmes restrict certain dye-fixing chemistries as part of their certified input criteria. Mills producing for these certified or eco-labelled markets should confirm their specific programme's requirements before selecting any fixing agent โ this applies to any supplier's product, not just Seamens'.
Seamens can discuss the specific chemistry and available documentation directly with mills that need to confirm compliance for a particular certification or buyer requirement, so the right fixing approach is selected for that order rather than assumed.
How Is Wash-Fastness Tested?
Wash-fastness is typically tested by laundering a dyed and fixed fabric sample under standardised conditions, then rating colour change and staining onto adjacent fabric using a grey scale, usually on a 1โ5 scale where 5 is best. This standardised comparison lets mills and buyers compare fixing performance objectively across different dye recipes and shade depths.
- Colour change rating โ how much the dyed fabric itself faded during the wash test
- Staining rating โ how much colour transferred onto adjacent undyed fabric
- Standard test conditions โ temperature, detergent and cycle count fixed for comparability
Dosing & Handling
Dosing typically runs in the range of a few grams per litre, but the exact rate is confirmed through a lab-dip trial on the specific dye recipe and shade, since performance varies by dye class and depth of shade. Standard chemical handling practice โ PPE, adequate ventilation, and following the product's safety data sheet โ applies during dosing and mixing.
